I was right. I didn't care.

Hey, thanks for all the great album recommendations, everybody. I think my list agrees with a few of your choices, but for the most part I told you and your musical opinions to take a hike. Seriously, you and your opinions could use the fresh air. So, without further adieu, here's my list:

1) Straylight Run - s/t
2) Various Artists - Garden State Soundtrack
3) Jimmy Eat World - Futures
4) The Killers - Hot Fuss
5) The Western Front - Go to Your Desire; Don't Hang Around Here.

I'm assuming that most of you haven't heard of the last band, seeing as they're a local Iowa band and I only know them because they played in our Battle of the Bands. You should check out their purevolume site. Anyone with a song that shares its title with a quote from "It's a Wonderful Life" is okay by me.

Okay, let the Tim-bashing begin.

The Garden State Soundtrack? Do soundtracks even count?

I'm (sadly yet again) going to second Jake (that turtle hating commie). I don't think Soundtracks or Comps should count for best CD's of 2004. Something about that just doesn't sit right. It's no longer "the best album" it's a "the better songs off of a few mediocre albums put together to a now above par album. I won't argue too much with the Jimmy Eat World, or Killers... neither of which I'm just floored by, but are pretty solid. And of course I'm restating my recommendation for Zebrahead's MFZB. I would like to thank the academy for their consideration.

I'm sorry, are either of you the music director of a college radio station that no one listens to? I thought not.

A decent point though. I'm not sure if he'll accept a soundtrack. I'll probably give Alva Star - Escalator or Keane - Hopes & Fears as an alternative.

But seriously, have you heard the Garden State Soundtrack? It's the primer to good music. And they're all from stellar albums, Robbo. But you kids just stick with your Zebrahead and your self-titled Goldfinger albums. Let me know when you're ready to come out of 1996.

Ah, everyone dissing the Garden State Soundtrack...yet it's the only thing on Tim's list worth two shits! That's right I said it, we were all thinking it. Except for maybe JEW, as it hilariously works out is Jimmy Eat World's acronym.

But blah blah everyone is entitled to his own opinion, to blah his own blah blah. Although, Tim...The Killers? I enjoyed their songs about transvestite/transgender love, but only to a point. It's a sad day for the heterosexual community - Scott

Zebrahead missed the deadline by like 6 weeks. Now I did notice that instead of addressing my actual pick, you went back to a statement I had made previously and, by taking it out of context, tried to attack my character. Starting to sound like a certain president I know.

Muh-ha-ah-ha
Take that Jerk... telling me to come out of 1996. If you've got a beef with Goldfinger come out and say it. Or do they just not drag you down to that borderline suicidal depression that you personally seek out in your current emo fad. Although I do have to admit I'm glad to see the list isn't just an comp-emo-lation.

(I want to note that you did end your post with "Okay, let the Tim-bashing begin." I'm just trying to give you what you asked for.)

Dear Diary,

sigh.

I really had high hopes for my budding romance with Scotty2hotty, but I'm afraid he's gone and killed it. I simply cannot be with someone who not only bashes the Killers, but also bashes them on the basis of ONE song he probably overheard while listening to top 40 radio. tsk.

If he could just LISTEN to the rest of the album I'm sure he'd come to understand why it is listed. I'm sure he'd see the light, and realize the greivous error in judgement he has made, and know that Somebody Told Me is probably the least stellar of the Killer's work (aside from Believe Me Natalie).

My hope is that someday he'll come to appreciate such gems as Mr. Brightside and Smile like You Mean It as much as I do, because I know deep down inside of me he's a good person with good taste in music. Then I know we can be happy together.

So there go all my hopes and dreams.....

Excuse me while I go drown my sorrows in the Western Front.

Having not heard all I want to this year, my current Best Of list looks like this:

1) Arcade Fire - Funeral
2) Brian Wilson - SMiLE
3) Wilco - A Ghost Is Born
4) Interpol - Antics
5) Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Love Bad News

Honorable mention to William Shatner's album, which is better than it has any business being. Extra credit also goes to reissues that cannot make the list, like The Clash, Pavement, and Talking Heads. One last thing, next time you talk to Karl Munson, tell him I hate him.

Dear Journal,

Today I learned something. Ok, you got me I didn't. But I was reminded of something. Sometimes when people first meet me they forget how rarely serious I am. For instance, this "Keri" I met on Tim's blog. She didn't seem to realize that I was just making fun of Tim, as is my wont. I do like Mr. Brightside, and I've downloaded most of their album.

I just wish this Keri could Smile Like She Meant it, and Change her Mind. Because really, Everything Will Be Alright. I guess I just regret All The Things I've Done, but Believe Me Keri, I'm a Star. Soon I'll be On Top again. I just think that Keri Was a Friend of Mine. Hopefully she will be again after sees how full of it I am. - Scott

Dear Diary,

siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh.

All is right with the world... I have found it in my heart to forgive Scott for his insensitive and, dare I say, disgusting display of jealousy over my love of the Killers.

I see now that he doesn't mean what he says, and I think he has come to accept the fact that if it will work out between us he will just have to settle for sharing my fan-girl affections with other more musicially gifted guys.

(One of the aforementioned guys may or may not be Drew, David, and Mitch from The Western Front, with whom I shared an exceptionally pleasant couple of hours with at last Friday's battle of the bands... what? AHEM...)

(we were just TALKING)

cough.

Anyway, I'm delirously happy that Scott and I have worked out our differences, and can only hope that he won't dare to disagree with me ever again...especially when it comes to taste in music.

Hey, thanks for all your musical opinions, guys. Most of you are much cooler than I'll ever be. (Thomas, I'm looking at you.) I submitted my list a couple days ago, so we'll see if Kyle prints it or just makes fun of it. I have a hunch that it's not quite as indie as it should be, but whatever.

And yeah Fox, Sin Shifter just barely didn't make the list. Although if the list was for song of the century, I'd nominate "S-E-X N-O-W"
