A case study, if you will

Consider the following:

On an MTV promo for the season finale of The Ashlee Simpson Show, an intro from a song by The Postal Service is used. Ashlee Simpson is nowhere near cool enough to deserve the use of The Postal Service.

On the other hand, that same intro is used in a trailer for the independent movie Garden State, which stars Natalie Portman and Zach Braff of Scrubs fame, who also wrote and directed it. This movie is definitely cool enough to deserve the use of The Postal Service.

Learn this lesson well, world.

Congratulations, Jake. You're not even as cool as the people who make promos for MTV. That's a pretty low rung on the cool ladder.

Okay Tim here is the real question, are you for Ashlee or Jessica? I am very curious to hear, but feel I know the answer to this already. (and sorry you have to pick one, because this is obviously an important division). However, I must point out the random and funny language errors Jessica makes on a weekly basis. Definitely some points in her camp for that. For the other side, I must say that brunettes have that extra "something special" that sets them apart as individuals with some attitude. So really, I am torn. Tim....please...your input?

Oh Allyn, that's not even a question. As uncool as an artist who records her major label debut before ever playing a live gig is, she's still cooler than her sister Jessica. Here's the breakdown:

Yes, Jessica is gorgeous. But she's recently become famous for saying extremely stupid things. Being dumb = not hot. Plus, her music makes me want to puncture my own eardrums with a pine cone.

Ashlee has zero street cred as an artist in my book. As much as I'm sure she "helped" write the lyrics for her songs, I've yet to see her pick up an instrument or even have a knack for melody. So I'm loath to refer to her as a songwriter. Prepackaged pop star, sure. But here's the rub: I don't hate her music. It's actually not bad. At the very least, it gets stuck in my head. I don't think I've ever listened to a Jessica Simpson song all the way through, let enough times for it to get stuck in my head. So Ashlee wins as the lesser of two evils, based on pure listenability.

Plus, she's a brunette. And brunettes are way hotter.
